Government Websites
The front page of the Utusan Borneo 12 Jan 2008 and the Borneo Post 12 Jan 2008 gave wide coverage on the efforts of the State Government to develop a wireless Sarawak. There is a picture of our Datuk Seri Lim Keng Yaik's look of amazement in the front page which I feel would see how impressed he is with this progress made by a State with vast area - almost the size of West Malaysia but one tenth of the country's total population. I do share this view as reported in the paper “Imagine someone in Long Ikang using the Internet to sell his products, pay his quit rent, or communicate using VOIP (voice over internet protocol) with his child studying in Australia,” he said, adding that this could also be applied in the realm of telemedicine, research, marketing, and e-government, to name but a few." Yes, imagine that!
Some Government Agencies Lagging
On another light the Sunday Post published a report on the update status of State Government websites or rather cobwebsites this morning. I supposed this got a few of the State Agencies' webmasters attention as I get SMSed about my agency's website. I told them I am not the webmaster but it did cause me to catch a copy of the Sunday Post. Some of the agencies that seemed to get the paper's attention include the State Health Department, the Natural Resource and Environment Board and the Local Authorities. If they dug deeper I am sure they will find some that are terribly outdated. However by Monday I am sure my webmaster friends will be scurrying like mad to put in fresh information for the new year.

Borneo Post Online Needs to Walk the Talk
I was trying to link the article of the morning paper to this blog but I guess the Borneo Post Online version is also suffering from the problem of updating their website. All i get to see was a thumbnail picture of the frontpage.

I would not know when the Sunday Post will be updating their website later this morning. But hey please do not disappoint our Minister. He has good words for our Sarawak as quoted in yesterday's paper “Sarawak is number one in the country in terms of broadband connectivity". Come on webmasters - we need to be Number One in Contents also.
Sarawak is Number One - let's keep our Miinister amazed.

sometimes i really feel tempted to update the Song district website.. tapi wut to do.. lack of info and no access.. waa!!
Another, the heads are always outstation, so, who to endorse the updates and be responsible for it?
How much are the webmaster getting paid to do all that task? RM2000/mth?
Even if I give my FREE service to Miri City Council, I would not be able to put the latest info in their website because, the Mayor need to endorse it, the Mayor too, need to get clearance from ALL his superiors (the YBs and reps).
So, the best person for the job is the person in authority themselves.
In moeswk or cmd, maybe our pengyu nadai.nama should be the webmaster.

but the person who have the access and all, they dun do it...
so, back to square one.. i gez...
i duno~
But I think it will be a long, long time before this happens.
And there are actually many places with free wifi in Kuching.
